BENJAMIN FREDERICK TALBOTT
Benjamin is remembered on the war memorial at the Town Hall, Ipswich.

Died: 6th June 1944; age: 29; died of wounds at Sword Beach, Normandy.

Occupation: Police Constable with the Ipswich Borough Police – joined 1937.
Enlistment: Royal Armoured Corps.
In 1935, Benjamin was sent to Egypt, where he was based in the desert at Mersa-Matruh. After 18 months of service, Benjamin returned to England and joined the Ipswich Borough Police.
In August 1942, Benjamin was called back into service in the Royal Armoured Corps.

Benjamin was educated at Lawshall School under the Elementary Schoolmaster, Mr. Frederick William Harmston. After leaving school, Benjamin continued his education from 1931 to 1932 at the Chadacre Agricultural Institute. He was awarded a Certificate in Agriculture and a prize for the student who made the most progress during his term.

Benjamin was a Police Constable. He was a boarder at the home of Walter and Edith Ward – 3, Kitchener Road, Ipswich.
In 1944, in Birmingham, Warwickshire, Benjamin married Mavis Alberta Wilton, born September 1923, Wortley, Yorkshire, West Riding – daughter of Herbert Wilton, a girder plater, and May Beatrice Wilton (nee Edwards), of 17, Holliday Road, Birmingham, Warwickshire.

Benjamin is also commemorated on the British Normandy Memorial, virtually opened by His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales, on the 6th June 2021.
