Born: 6th February 1919, Ipswich.
Died: Christmas Eve, 1940; age: 21; Died of Wounds received from a bomb explosion on the deck of a barge, at Sollum, Libya.
The Uralla Times – 23rd January 1941 – On the wharf at Sollum, a Gallipoli barge, manned by Cypriots under the charge of Allied seamen, was unloading all the Lord Mayor’s Christmas hampers, including nets full of oranges for the troops at Bardia. A bomb was dropped, causing an explosion on the deck of the barge and right among the men. 42 men were either killed or wounded by it.

Rank: Signalman; Service Number: C/SSX 19602.
Regiment: H.M.S. ‘Medway’.
The body was originally buried on the beach at Sollum, and a cross was erected. On the 31st May 1943, the body was exhumed, identified and reburied at Halfaya Sollum War Cemetery.

H.M.S. ‘Medway’ – 3rd May 1940 Arrived at Alexandria for the support of submarine operations in the eastern Mediterranean. Between June 1940 – April 1942, was on deployment at Alexandria for the support of 1st Submarine Flotilla.
