Born: 15th November 1899, Ipswich.

Baptised: 14^th January 1900, at St. John the Baptist Church, Ipswich – family home at Upper Cavendish Street, Ipswich.

Died: 11th June 1918; age 18; killed in an aircraft accident at South Carlton, Lincolnshire.

Residence: 105, Back Hamlet, Ipswich.

Occupation: Analyst with the Ipswich Gas Light Company – had completed 2 ½ years of training as an analyst.

Service in the R.A.F. – 20th November 1917 at South Farnborough, Hampshire.

On the 10^th January 1918, Francis passed his examinations and was deemed Fit to be a Pilot.

Based at South Carlton Aerodrome, Lincolnshire.

Rank: Flight Cadet – A1; Service Number: 110251

Regiment: Royal Air Force, No. 39 Training Squadron.

Funeral service and burial held on the 15^th June.

Aircraft: Avro 504A/J, serial number C4323, of the No. 39 Squadron, based at South Carlton Aerodrome, stalled on a steep climbing turn, nose-dived and caught fire in the South Carlton area.

Lieutenant John Law, aged 23 years, was also killed. John Law was born in January 1895, at Simonstone, Lancashire, the son of Ezekiel and Phoebe Ann Law (nee Wolfenden), of Buckshaw Terrace, Simonstone, Read. John was employed as a cotton weaver for J. Kemp & Bro’s – Cotton Weavers of Read. John Law was buried at St. John’s Churchyard, Read, Lancashire.
