On Boxing Day, 1914, at Holy Trinity Church, Ipswich, 23 year old Herbert, a Driver for the R.H.A., of Cheriton, Kent, married 25 year old Ellen Beatrice Chaplin, a net repairer, born 1889, Ipswich – daughter of William Chaplin, an iron foundry labourer for Ransomes, Sims & Jefferies, Orwell Works, and Ellen Clara Jane Chaplin (nee Worby), of 79, Albion Street, Ipswich.
Ellen and Herbert had two children:

Ruby Verdun Sudds, born September 1917, Ipswich.
Herbert is also remembered on the war memorial at Holy Trinity Church, Ipswich.
