Born: 18th September 1919, Ipswich.
Died: 24th June 1943; age 24; died of Cholera at Kanyu Camp No. 2 whilst a Japanese POW on the Thailand/Burma Railway.
Captured: 15th February 1942 – Fall of Singapore.
Residence: 20, White Elm Street, Ipswich.
Occupation: Carpenter.
Rank: Corporal; Service Number: 7344310.
Regiment: Royal Army Medical Corps, 196 Field Ambulance.
The body was originally buried at Kanyu Camp No. 2, Grave 15. The body was later exhumed, identified by records, and reburied in the spring of 1946.

Reginald’s mother, Helena had her first son, George Henry Abbott in August 1913, Ipswich. In 1914, in Ipswich, Helena married George Henry Grimwood, born 1891, Ipswich, they had one daughter Eva May Grimwood, born February 1915, and Helena’s son George changed his surname from Abbott to Grimwood. On the 3rd July 1916, George Grimwood was KiA at the Battle of the Somme. Helena’s young children became Boarded Out Children under the care of the Ipswich Branch of the Soldiers and Sailors’ Families Association, Town Hall, Ipswich. In 1921, the two children were Boarded Out Children – two of six children under the care of 62 year old widow, Cecilia Jane Richardson (nee Andrews), at Fells Cottage, Old Felixstowe, Suffolk.
In 1941, Ipswich, Reginald married Irene Doris May Lankester, a tailoress, born March 1913, Ipswich – daughter of Higham George Lankester, a permanent way labourer, and Florence May Lankester (nee Boon), an office cleaner, of 10, White Elm Street, Ipswich.
Irene and Reginald had one daughter.
Reginald is also remembered on the war memorial at Holy Trinity Church, Ipswich.
